"Why don't I tell you what my greatest weaknesses are?"

Do I have a weakness? Of course, I do! In fact, I am mostly weaknesses. We're human, right? I won't dive into my flaws, but if you were asked to write down your weaknesses on a sheet of 8.5 x 11 of paper, would you run out of space like I would?!

I'll digress a little by referring to The Office Episode #324 "The Job" when David Wallace interviewed Michael Scott for a promotion. Wallace's first question to Michael was regarding his strengths as a manager, and instead, Michael replies, "Why don't I tell you what my greatest weaknesses are? I work too hard, I care too much, and sometimes I can be too invested in my job." If you haven't seen this episode, you're missing out!

However, when it comes to CrossFit and weaknesses, there seems so much to work on! That's certainly what I enjoy about CrossFit; each day is uniquely challenging, but also an opportunity to improve. Even the best athletes have a long list of weaknesses (it's all relative, right??).

A non-gym-related weakness of mine has always been my writing. Like most people, I struggle to be creative, and my grammar is mediocre at best. For 2022, I decided I was going to write more, which is partly why I committed to a weekly blog. I certainly feel that I can add value as your Coach, but it’s also about accountability and practice for me.

I wrote my first blog post on January 3rd and have only missed one week so far. At first, each post would take 1-2 hours to complete the first draft. Since then, most blogs take me under 30 minutes. In fact, I have a small gym timer on my desk, and treat it as a workout to make sure I don't overthink. I've only written 18 blogs, but I'm already seeing a huge improvement. All it took was leaving my comfort zone and some consistent practice.

If we can apply this logic to any of our weaknesses--dealing with being uncomfortable while working on skills that don't come naturally to you--over time, you'll certainly improve and shorten that list of weaknesses. My hope for you is eventually, you, too, will sound like Michael Scott…
