Think about the statement above. We always want things now...
Don’t you remember being a child and watching commercials? I wanted everything… Every single commercial caused an unbearable desire to obtain a new material good.
As do all children, I would run and request that my mother purchase whatever it was I wanted. She would always tell me the same: ”We’ll see. Maybe…”.
I didn’t get it back then, but I do now. My mother knew that by allowing time to pass, my burning desire would most likely dissipate, thus showing that I didn’t truly want this object. Sure, there were times that I would continually ask for the same item for weeks and weeks, and then my mother would reward my patience with what I requested her to buy.
The point that I am trying to make is that in moment, you are going to need that cookie, need that sandwich, need that bagel, need that beer, you don’t need that flourless chocolate cake, and you don’t need that nap in lieu of your regularly scheduled workout.
What you do need is to ascertain what it is you WANT the most. And I am fairly confident that most of you want to improve your fitness; thereby improving your life. All of those unhealthy choices above are not what you really want.
I am going to revise a popular saying:
“Nothing tastes as good, as healthy [usually read skinny] feels”.
Always remember what you want most.
Delayed gratification….that’s what I call it. Lately, I have been working really hard to “lean out” and get to the next level of fitness. I want cookies and cake every single day. But, I stop and think about what I really want to accomplish. Its not easy-it never is. But, without discipline, there can be no real progress. Nice blog,LP.
