WOD, 6/25/10:

20 Kettlebell swings, 1.5 pood
20 minute time cap.
This is probably the most “blogged about” topic in CrossFit, but this is the case because it is necessary. I have blogged about it on numerous occasions; however, the reminders never get cliche in my opinion.
So, I belong to this Online quote database that automatically emails me a quote daily (corny, I know…but I am an English teacher still). Yesterday’s was a Thomas Jefferson quote:
“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”
Good old Tom is not on the nickel for nothing…He knew what he was talking about.
In life and at CrossFit, the goals we set cannot be achieved in a day, sometimes not in a month, or even in a year; however, with the right attitude we can achieve them or come pretty darn close.
I remember in May of 2008 (2 years ago), watching CrossFit videos on the mainsite (www.crossfit.com). I specifically remember watching a video of the workout “Diane” (21-15-9 deadlifts @225 and handstand push-ups) It was a male and female athlete performing the WOD. I recall watching in disbelief~How could I EVER perform a handstand push-up…let alone 45?!?!
Flash-forward to April 2010…I FINALLY performed my first prescribed (head-to-floor every rep) handstand push-up WOD. It took me close to two years, but it happened. If I had a negative attitude, gave up on WODS with this movement in them, I would never have mastered this movement. What oftentimes seems impossible, is not with time.
On the other hand, as Jefferson states, if one refuses to think positively, set goals, and put the effort in to achieve them, there is no assistance on the planet that can help him/her.
Keep your goals in mind and come to the gym tomorrow with a positive attitude, ready to work towards achieving them.
Giving some love to the ladies… LP rocks- you guys should give thanks for having such an amazing coach and athlete…

Good blog posting for all those questions we keep getting…
"What gym do you go to?"
"Haven't seen you at (fill in the gym name) in a while…what have you been doing?"
"You're following that new TV workout, right? that XYZ thing?"
and my favorite (usually a follow-up to the first question)
"Crossfit, what the heck is that?!?!"
