Your Workout Theme Song????

WOD, 3.26.10:

“Blackjack”

6 minutes- Hang power clean (115/75)

5 minutes- Med ball clean (20/14)

4 minutes – Thruster 115/75 lbs

3 minutes – Overhead to floor ball Slams (20/14)

2 minutes – Toes to Bar

1 minute – Burpees

Keep track of total reps for score.

You rise, you fall, fall down and you rise again. What don’t kill ‘ya makes you more strong.“

I can recall hearing these words blaring out of my earbuds on the treacherous trail run during the 2009 CrossFit Games.  They are from Metallica’s “Broken, Beat, and Scarred.” At this point,  I had just been kicked in the face, had a mouth full of dirt, and now began to almost tumble down the side of what has been referred to as “Mt. Castro,” only to look at the next steep hill I had to run up.  The words of this song pumped me up, made me ready to fight, they reinvigorated me to keep on going.  All of a sudden, I felt like a warrior.

I was reading CrossFit Milford’s site today and saw that Jay came up with a great idea.  To most CrossFitters, music is inspirational during a workout.  It gets us pumped, fired-up, and keeps us moving.  I am always looking for new songs to download, but oftentimes, exit itunes lacking any new music.  So, I throw the challenge out to you:  if you we plowing through the most grueling workout of your CrossFit career, what song would you want in your ear?  What would inspire, anger, or fuel you? What is your workout THEME SONG (and no DP, I will not play “Africa” by Toto during WODs)?  Please post the title and artist to the comments section (feel free to comment even if you are not a Shoreliner).  I plan to download the songs and make a playlist. And Blanco, I already said no to Hannah Montana…sorry.

I really like Africa….and Souhern Cross.

But, seriously, its about the beat. It has to have a good rythem, a strong baseline and good drums. The Lyric is almost not relevant. If I can hear the lyric then I am not focused enough.

Oh Jesus Christ Dave, you have hit my territory. Can of worms?

Every Crossfit workout makes me feel like I'm 14 at the Tune Inn (for old locals, it used to be on Center St in New Haven), being bodyslammed in the put by dudes a lot older and bigger than me. So this list will comprise most agressive music in the hardcore, punk and metal categories (mostly):

Against Me, Agnostic Front, Hatebreed, Walls of Jericho, Slapshot, The Misfits, Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, NY Dolls, Social Distortion, refused, Rancid, (more raunchier) Pixies, Anything off of "Jed" by the Goo Goo Dolls, Fifteen, Pennywise, (older) Dropkick Murphys, Norma Jean, Fucked Up, Snapcase, In My Eyes, Bane, Panthera (I see a few others mentioned this band), Motorhead, NOFX, Crime in Sterio….

Also, Dancier stuff and big beat shit:

    Prodigy, The Faint, LCD Soundsystem

    OG Hiphop:

ONYX, Public Enemy, NWA, ICE-T, KRS-One, Cypryss Hill, House of Pain, early Beastie Boys…

OK I'm done now. I've liked the mix at the gym already…so no complaints here! You just poked at the DJ side of me.

It depends on where I am in the workout–warm-up; warm; "in the zone;" sprinting/moving faster; cool down…in no particular order:

    "Fortunate Sun"– CCR

Anything by Madonna (can't help it–she's awesome)

"St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)"

"Space Pussy"– Hallucinogen (this is hardcore techno–not for the faint of heart)

    "L.A. Woman"– The Doors

That's just a taste–I have several play lists for this very purpose.

We should all trade music at some point. :)

I'm a HUGE House head myself. I'm from NYC. Born and raised. So I've pretty much spent my childhood in places like Sound Factory and Pacha. lol. Below is just a few that I like. All House music, but so motivating. The beauty is that House trax are usually about 6-7 minutes. So they are really great for sprinting a mile (puke), and perfect for intervals.

Swedish House Mafia ft. Pharrell – One (Your Name)

Kylie Minogue – Get Outta My Way (Kris Menace Club Mix)

    Roger Sanchez – 2Gether

Jesse Voorn & Jorgensen – Troubled So Harder (Alex Kenji Mix)

    Enjoy!
