Anyone You Know Drinking the HATERADE?

WOD, 2.1.10:

4 rounds for time of:

AMRAP (as many REPS as possible) in 2 minutes of hang power clean (135/95)

rest 1 minute

AMRAP in 2 minutes of wall balls (20/14)

rest 1 minute

AMRAP in 2 minutes of toes to bar

Count total reps for all 4 rounds for score.

So, I’ve gotten a couple of emails and phone calls from clients about friends and relatives that are drinking, as “The Situation” would call it, the haterade.  You know what this means…they are full-out hatin’ on your sport of choice.  The typical accusations…we don’t do ‘real’ pull-ups, we lift ‘baby weight’ blah, blah, blah… pure stupid talk.  One client suggested that we plan a little “haterade” WOD on a Saturday morning to show, not tell, them what we are all about.  Post in the comments section if you know someone that you think will compete, and therefore, stop drinking the haterade…permanently

Congrats to Rob who recently got his first muscle-up.

Gotta say a little prayer before some of our WODs

Yeahhh, Murph...gettin low, LoW, LOW!

Coach Shlee takes the 4:30 class through some skill work.

That's the "challenge" part… I have a few around the area that may entertain the idea, and another few that are out of the area. I'll spread the word and see if we can garner interest.

a lot of fat haters here. Health and safety regs at work require 2 or more people to lift any load over 25kg, so why would I or anyone else need a 315 lb deadlift? It defies logic. The warriors in the gulf who we stand shoulder to shoulder with each day are way better working on shaving seconds off their Murph time than your pathetic irongarm challenge.

I forgot to say the girls of IRONGARM will be doing 185lbs. So any women here should jump in to. For some of you crossfit guys who are on the fence and it will get you to do it, you can use that weight as well.

okay, okay, folks. This blog was intended for a little friendly competition. No need to be nasty. I do not know exactly what IronGarm is, but I do not believe that challenge to be unreasonable for a CrossFitter. The weight for some of the CrossFit qualifiers was 325/225(W) and 1/2 an hour is not that long of a time. I may try it. 185 is certainly not unreasonable for me. I have pulled it in several WODs. BTW..to my non-crossfitters who've commented: My max DL is 335, I weigh 125, and my shoulder press is very close to my body weight (I am working on it). My best mile is under 6 minutes. I do not consider myself an atypical CrossFit female; simply, look at the stats from this years CF Games competitors

First off, why are people hi-jacking the blog? To say that non crossfitters are hatin' is really an understatement. If you guys don't have anything useful or intelligent to say, then just read on and keep to yourself. A challenge was thrown down and you people have to hide behind nicknames and say ridiculous comments that just goes to show that you guys know nothing about Crossfit, we chose to punish our bodies, we don't just go through the motions. Crossfit as a whole is high intensity we don't stare at ourselves in the mirror while doing bicep burn outs, if that's what u chose then that's you're decision. Don't come on here bashing what we do without trying it. If you truly believe that you are fit enough then you'd come down, if not ask me for and I'd be glad to meet up and do some skull crushers, I'll show you that even though I Crossfit I'm just as strong if not stronger then you.

By the way I used to train at a regular gym or "globo gym" as people call it religiously for years, so I'm sure you have some of the same doubts I did before I became a full blown crossfitter less then 6 months ago. Just stop hatin'

I read some where that "we can do what we do better than you and we can do what you do better than you". Some crossfitter said that you might have head it before. So I told you all about a challenge going on on a board called IRONGARM. Why would you challenge people who have never done crossfit to a crossfit challenge. How does that prove anything?

    315 is mad weight?

    Blanco

We can meet up and train I have a cool 850 tire or a firehydrant we can shoulder and a bunch of other junk at my gym. Or if you want we can go to the park throw some hg stuff. I am in Roanoke Va come train anytime.

Never wanted to hurt anyones feelings, just put out a challenge. Take it or not. If you just did one rep and it was a pr that would be cool.

    Grip Junky,

It sounds like you don't fully understand crossfit.

    According to Mr. Glassman:

"The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen. "

So if you're saying that you need to scale the weight, that's cool

Grip Junky…thanks for taking the time to check out Shoreline Crossfit. I hope the site gave you some better insight into what it is we actually do here. Crossfit is not for everyone and I can only speak for myself. I've been crossfitting for 3 months. I've lost 15 lbs, have gotten stronger, faster, more flexible and have learned how to eat properly to fuel my workouts. I've also gained a second family. The people I train with are second to none. Crossfit is definately not for everyone. It takes a certain type of person to punish themselves day in and day out knowing that the end result will be a longer, healtheir life. I'm always one for spirited conversation and I'm open to other points of view. You obviously have your way of working out and we have ours. Again, our way is not for everyone. I appreciate your challenge and I'm sure there are some
people in our box who may take up your challenge on a "light" day. Continue to train hard. Have fun with your tires and fire hydrants. We'll be sure to call when it's a heavy trash pickup day here in town. Stay off our blog.

I think something's been lost in translation here: We want those people who haven't crossfitted; are afraid of crossfitting; or are unfamiliar with or want to challenge the crossfit methods to come check it out.

How can you judge something when you haven't experienced it?

This is a community that welcomes people regardless of ability. Anyone who wants to insult crossfit or its members (particularly members of this box) needs to give crossfit a shot or just move on–the energy spent on arguing is better spent on a really good workout (for non-crossfitters) or a WOD (for crossfitters).

    Grip Junky,

Now I think you are just trying too hard. You don't seem to have any understanding of all the great things about crossfit.

Here's a quote from Mr. Glassman (sounds like he's talking to you directly):

"Those who do not recognize the physiological import of CrossFit – unprecedented increases in work capacity across broad time and modal domains – are left with no rational explanation of CrossFit's popularity and reach. For these people I am typically seen as a marketing savant whose marketing strategies curiously won't replicate. It's like a blind guy wondering why everyone hangs out under lights at night."

Quit dodging. Either say you'll do the challenge of AMRAP 315 lbs DL's in 30 minutes or you won't. Espousing Glassman's comments about CrossFit doesn't tell us whether you'll do it or not.

I'm pretty sure the grip junky challenge is courtesy of Dan John via his brother Gary from a T-Muscle article. One strategy would be to pull once every 30 seconds. That isn't too different from the Games last year. It would certainly build muscular endurance and definitely improve grip strength.

Currently I am actively following Fred Hahn and focusing on using machines. That's why I won't be able to participate in your "IRONGARM" challenge. But good luck to all. Just remember, there are many different ways to get a good workout.

If the crossfit people want to make a challenge, I think it would need to be on basic moves, so we're comparing apples to apples.

The deadlift challenge works only because everyone does deadlifts.

    Someone's suggestion of

    –30 wall balls (20lbs)

–25 sumo deadlift high pulls (65lbs)

    –20 glute-ham sit ups

    –15 thrusters (65lbs)

has too much of a skill component to it.

I mean, who outside of crossfit does wall balls and gh-situps (and maybe even thrusters).

It'd be like me saying we'll rock climb 100ft for time because I climb a lot.

People could do it, but I'd have an advantage because I'm more familiar with it.

    Just my $0.02

    Hm,

I am sure I would be smarter NOT to comment here, however:

The 315 DL challenge is plenty CrossFit: I see on Dan John's blog someone is making a big deal of pulling 315 60 times in 30 minutes. Yawn. At last year's NorCal qualifier, I pulled 315×17 reps unbroken in about 45 seconds, and did 22 reps in about 1:15. I just had an athlete lift 250×45 in about a minute. Is that good enough for you guys?

I assume the comment about 315 being unrealistic is a joke? Local affiliates here have plenty of guys who can DL 400 or 500 pounds and some who can do 600-700. And we are talking about folks who are well-rounded, and can, for instance run around the block without puking.

  49. September 10, 2010 11:16 am

The "guy" making a big deal about 61 reps in half an hour is 61. He deadlifted his age for reps with 315 for half an hour.

I remember one time I got 314 for a single. Of course, that was in the snatch at a weightlifting meet, but I digress…
