Just to clarify the new classes do not begin until NEXT WEEK; therefore, Saturday, there will only be ONE 9:00 a.m. class.

Resolutions, goals, promises, vows…whatever it is that you’d like to call them, people tend to make a lot of them this time of year.  When I worked out at a GloboGym, we used to hate January because all the “resolutioners” would hog the machines.  Then came February…back to normal.  WHY???? PEOPLE TEND TO NOT FOLLOW THEIR GOALS TO FRUITION.  I’ve done it…you’ve done it…So, how can we make our resolutions a reality?

1. MAKE THEM CONCRETE AND MEASURABLE.  Don’t say, “I want to lose weight.”  Say, “I want to be X weight by X date.”  Don’t say, “I want to be better at CrossFit.” Say, “I want to improve my pull-ups and overhead squats.”

2. Make them REALISTIC.  Don’t say, “I want to do muscle-ups by Feb. 1st” if you can do ring dips yet. Don’t say, “I am going to do CrossFit 6 days a week, and CrossFit Endurance 3 days, and come in for some extra strength training too” if you struggle at this moment to get to the gym twice a week.  You are setting yourself up discouragement.

3. Write down the STEPS that it is going to take for you to reach your goals.  When you are planning a long road trip, you need more than just the address of the final destination.  You need to be familiar with all of the routes necessary for you to get there.

4. WRITE THE GOAL DOWN.  Put it on the fridge, make it your screen saver, frame it next to the toilet, tell it to your spouse, best friend or TRAINER…BE ACCOUNTABLE.  It’s easy to fail at something when we think that no one is looking.

SO LET’S KICK THIS OFF RIGHT NOW, SCF…POST IN THE COMMENTS: WHAT ARE YOUR FITNESS RESOLUTIONS FOR 2010? NO ANONYMOUS POSTS, PLEASE.

First comment of the new year!

DY-Lan's fitness resolution for 2010 is… to keep up what I have been doing for the last 3 months. At first I thought all you CrossFitters were crazy but you know how I feel now. I am so happy with my results from Shoreline CrossFit and want to continue with them through out the new year.

    Happy New Year!

My main goal is to limit the "rest" time during WODs (i.e. if weight drops or breather is needed, max rest time of 3secs going forward). Also…
