WOD, 10/23/09:
Five rounds for time of:
Run 400 meters
30 Glute-ham sit-ups
250/170 pound Deadlift, 15 reps

FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENTS…what does that even mean? We use the term all the time at CrossFit to describe our squats, deadlifts, presses, and cleans. This, simply put, means that what we do in the gym each day, transfers into our daily lives. Everytime you lift something off of the ground, you deadlift it. Everytime you lift and put something on a shelf, you clean and jerk or deadlift and push press it. Everytime you get up off of the couch, toilet, or dinner table, you come out of a squat. These are all movements that you will need to maintain for the remainder of your lives to be considered a FUNCTIONAL human being! I cannot recall the last time I bicep curled or shrugged (as an isolated movement) any significant weight in REAL LIFE.
One that note, check out this email I received from firefighter Mark Testa yesterday. Can we say that functional movements convert to our everyday lives???
”I was feeling guilty taking two days off today, so as we were hose testing and I was lifting rolls of 4 inch hose that weigh about 100 lbs each so I was squatting to lift them and was watching my form. Then after a healthy lunch, we decided to climb the new ladder truck in full gear with an airpack and carrying a tool up 75ft at a 40 degree angle.”
Pay attention and see how many times YOU use our movements in your daily life.

Kev – will you be at the 430 class? Pushups are going great. When you attend the 0530 class what time do you eat when you wake & is it mostly fruit?
I should be at 430 today….and are u asking me about when I eat before a class? or a general eating question?
I eat protien and an apple just before I go to work…if I need an energy boost I snag fruit or a LARABAR before a wod…usually on my drive over…dunno if it's the best thing to do but it's what I do…LP, DP, Kel…your thoughts?
