The Shoreline’s name is on the board…This weekend, eight of Shoreline’s athletes went to CrossFit Performance in Fairfield and competed in their annual Fight Gone Bad Competition. The competition was individual, but the top four athletes from each box combined their scores to see which gym would take home the FGB “Cup” for the year. Congrats to Hybrid Athletics-CrossFit Strongman of Stamford, who took home the cup…well deserved… you guys prove the name of your box true.
I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE CUP…I was in literal AWE of Shoreline’s athletes.
We have been open for ONE MONTH. The fact that we rallied enough athletes to even get the Shoreline’s name on the board, speaks wonders.
I used to go to competitions with Jason, owner of CrossFit Milford, and watch his demeanor change as he watched his athletes perform. Jay is not a “warm and fuzzy” (at least until you know him) type of guy, but you never saw a prouder papa than when his athletes were competing. I always wondered about the feeling, but never understood it until yesterday…
If you know me, you know I am competitive. I may go into an event saying, “it’s just for fun,” or, “for the experience,” but once I get there I scope at every person as if I am going to get into a personal battle with him/her. And you all know, I’ll bust a vein in my neck, and put an absolute BEATING on my vocal cords to cheer on anyone that needs it, especially if they’re from my box. Naturally, that occurred yesterday, but there was a point in the day when this changed…
Mike McWalters was on the rower in his last round, battling for calories (calories burned are points in FGB), and I saw Noelle (his wife of 1 year today), Jen, Kevin, Blanco, DP, Liz, and Shlee-SCREAMING, RANTING, FIGHTING, AS IF THE LOUDER THEY CHANTED THE MORE CALORIES HE’D BURN- gathered around the rower. And then, I saw CrossFitters from other boxes taking pictures of our crew cheering each other on.
I stepped back…gave the old vocal cords a rest…watched…HOW COULD THIS BE CREATED WITHIN ONE MONTH?? I was one proud mama… You guys ROCK! As far as I am concerned, that cup is on the shelf at our gym.
Competitions are good for us. They can show us where we stand as athletes, tell us what we need to improve on, and commend us for what we have worked for. I think we all took something away from yesterday…
Whatever the case may be, pat yourself on the back, and say what my cooperating teacher used to say to me during my student teaching experience, “you done good“ (we’re English teachers), but then, get to work on your weakness. It will only make you better for the next competition.

Shlee rocked it out and got one of the female high scores for SCF.

DP got in "the zone" and thought he was at 10 push presses and his judge counted 33 in round 3!

If McWalters wasn't in such a state of post-FGB hurt, I am sure he wouldn't stand for this!!

Even with a few competitors absent for the pic, we were a spirited bunch!

Some celebratory gluten-free beers...

Jen hit a PR in FGB and, as always, we could never have done it without her cheerleading.

Despite injury, Liz busted out a 250!!

As always, Blanco put 100% in yesterday.

This is the moment, to which I was referring to above. Great work, Mike!

If you thought that Carb Boy Kevin Miller's # 1 talent was singing, you need to see him row! He never rowed less than 22 calories in a minute!
Great work everyone sorry I could not be there to cheer all of you.
Mike I agree…FGB hasn’t a CLUE and Sat was an ABSOLUTE BLAST!
The SCF Family is second to NONE. Support, Friendship, and CrossfitLUV all around.
So speaking of Family…I haven’t really asked “mom”, “dad”, or “auntie Kelly” yet but…Jenn M and I have tossed around the idea of getting the family together for a big meal/cookout/awesome time at the box. Who else thinks this is a good idea? Who’s in? What do the “Parents” think? Date? Just throwing it out there….
OH YEA…”Sweat Night” at Humphey’s too…some Friday night in the very near future after the WOD walk right into Humphrey’s gym clothes and all, and have some drinks, food, and in SCF style, an incredible time.
Ok ALL "Sweat Night" THIS FRIDAY (10/2/09)…be there and be sweaty!!!
How does Nov. 7th sound for everyone?? Let's WOD and then enjoy our SCF Family with Paleo Delights…drop me a line thekevinmiller@gmail.com if you are in and once I see who's coming I can figure out who needs to bring what!
“yes” is my answer to questions 1, 2, & 4 on today’s post.
Carb Boy – i’m game for whatever. Our weekends are packed out until late in Oct but a Friday “Sweat Night” is always an option…
I HAD SO MUCH FUN THIS WEEKEND!!!!!! In the short 5 weeks that I have belonged to SCF I have grown slightly obsessed and can NOT imagine my life with out the gym and the SCF Fam!
Deb blanco where were you Sunday:)
I'll take the liberty for speaking for everyone else: FGB has NO IDEA what is coming to it the next time around!
Saturday was a blast, and I think people from other boxes saw what everyday at SCF is like… Easily one of the best decisions Noelle and I have made as an "old-married couple" was joining SCF… looking forward to more pain tonight!
