Be Persistent!
WOD, 9/15/09:
“Lynne”
Five rounds for max reps of:
Body weight bench press
Pull-ups
This is not a timed workout, but you will take three minutes of rest MAX in between each movement. You may perform whatever variation of pull-ups you are capable of, as well as scale the weight for the bench. This WOD is a true test of your ability to PUSH YOURSELF & NOT BE A QUITTER! Go past that rep that you thought was your last. I cannot tell you how far to go in this WOD, only you can tell yourself.
BTW: I now have the pictures from our grand opening…and they are BEAUTIFUL! I have already posted them to Facebook if you’d like to see them. They will be posted to our site shortly.
Be persistent…
When I was a kid, I asked my Father how he scored a chick like my Mom. He told me that he had one word for me: PERSISTENCE. Now, while I don’t condone stalking women in the late 1960′s, I do suggest heeding his advice. There is a Thomas Paine quote taken from his The Crisis, Number 1 (the Crisis being America’s quest for freedom from England, which BTW, didn’t happen in a day), which states, “the harder the conflict the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.”
We think it would be nice to walk through the doors of the gym and be able to nail the clean, the push jerk, a butterfly or kipping pull up, maybe even a muscle-up, and all the while have a sub 3 minute FRAN time…I guess it would be nice (I certainly don’t know what that is like), but how much better does it feel to EARN something?? Think of the first pair of sneakers you BOUGHT for yourself with your money from mowing lawns, babysitting, or selling #2 pencils for pencil fights at school (my personal favorite). Or, the first car you PAID for with your own 9 to 5 money-makin’ self. It FEELS GOOD TO EARN THINGS…WE APPRECIATE THEM MORE. Don’t be discouraged that you didn’t nail the clean and jerk today, or that you will only get two pull-ups in your first round of “Lynne” tomorrow. Be that person that can say, I took me MONTHS to get a muscle-up, or MONTHS to perform a WOD Rx’d…but, I can do it now. Why? Because I was persistent.

A picture can say a thousand words. Even the best, fail sometimes.
